Following their lead

My lesson plans for January, so far, included talking about winter, winter animals and hibernation…

It included building forts and making Q quilts…

It included freezing animals in water and letting the kids figure how to get them out, providing sticks, rock salt and water.

And all these things are fun and the kids were engaged for the most part. But…their lesson plans also included making plan books, sticker books, plans for building a castle, building that castle, writing letters to family and friends and making crowns.

As you can tell, their lesson plans were much more engaging because it was what they were interested in. There was way more writing, reading and learning then I would have ever fit in. That’s why it is always better to follow their lead!
